Background and motivation
My computer interest is pretty much all encompassing. I inhabit a kind of curiosity centered towards how many uses there are for cumpters, and have tried most of them in one for or another. Assembler programming, pixel art, musical composition, photoediting, high level programming languages and desktop publishing is just a small sample of the areas I’ve tried.
My very first computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16Kb which I got at the age of 9 (I sent it in for repairs once and got a 48KB version in return). In less than a year I got tired of the 2-3 games that came with the computer and started trying out the programming examles in the manual. I moved on through Commodore 128, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000 until I finally ended up with a IBM-compatible PC.
Currently my strongest interest lies withing the borders between users and data systems. This mostly involves design, layout and interfaces with emphasis on accessibility and usability, especially on the web. I have a very strong focus on these elements in my work and keeps myself updated on new thoughts and standards within these areas. Even from my first encounter with programming as a kid in the mid-eighties until today I’ve been quite clear on the fact that system development is my field.
Education and work
My education is very diverse, and includes commerce and administrative highschool with information technology, some university classes within computer science, MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) Master, MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional), an intensive 3 month webdesign course, computer science engineer at Tromsø University College.
My work experience includes earlier administrative positions, web developer for Tromsø University, lecturer in the computer science team at Tromsø University College, department engineer at Tromsø University and my present position as web developer for Bladet Tromsø AS / Harstad Tidende Gruppen, a group of local newspapers in northern Norway.
In addition I have my own company as an outlet for my “extracurricular” activities, and a lot of free pet projects (all of these are outdated, but a separate page for these might emerge).
Other hobbies
I’ve always been interested in artrelated stuff. I’m occasionally shooting pictures, pencildrawing, photo editing and composing music.
In addition to development I also use computers for playing games og server administration thanks to a Linux server placed at the Tromsøstudents computer association at Tromsø University.
